The woman in blue stopped breathing.

Her hand flew instinctively to the necklace around her throat.

Grace saw it.

Her face went white.

“That necklace…”

Nathan stepped between them.

“Grace, don’t.”

She stared at him.

“My mother gave me that on our wedding day.”

The woman in blue backed away.

“I didn’t know.”

Grace’s voice cracked.

“Where did you get it?”

Nathan closed his eyes.

The silence answered first.

Grace looked at him.

“You gave it to her?”

He couldn’t meet her eyes.

The smallest girl began crying.

“Daddy?”

Nathan flinched at the word.

The woman in blue turned toward him.

“You told me she was dead.”

Grace went completely still.

“What?”

Nathan’s face crumpled.

“I thought if you believed I disappeared…”

Grace stepped toward him.

“You took my daughters.”

His voice broke.

“I was trying to protect them.”

“From who?”

Nathan looked at the girls.

Then at the limousine.

Then back toward the airport doors.

His fear was suddenly unmistakable.

“From the people who were looking for you.”

Grace’s anger faltered.

The woman in blue whispered,

“Nathan… who is she?”

He swallowed hard.

Then finally said the truth he had been hiding for three years.

“She isn’t just my wife.”

Grace stared at him.

Nathan’s next words left both women frozen.

“She’s the only surviving witness to what happened that night.”
