🎬 PART 2: «What Her Father Saw on the Recording»

The maid never looked up.

She kept eating.

Mia kept cleaning.

The red light continued blinking above them.

In the security room, her father rewound the footage.

Not far.

Only twenty minutes.

He watched the foyer before Mia had entered.

He saw the maid walk toward the staircase.

He saw her check the front doors.

Then check her phone.

Then look directly toward the security camera.

She knew it existed.

But she smiled.

Because she believed nobody was watching.

The footage continued.

Mia appeared at the bottom of the staircase holding a schoolbook.

The maid took it from her hands.

Set it aside.

Then pushed the yellow mop toward her.

Mia hesitated.

The maid pointed toward the floor.

The father’s jaw tightened.

He moved the recording back farther.

An hour.

Then another.

And that was when the truth became worse.

This wasn’t the first day.

Different clothes.

Different afternoons.

The same yellow mop.

The same armchair.

The same little girl trying not to cry.

Every time the father left for work, the maid transformed his daughter from a child living in the house into someone afraid to sit down in it.

The father stopped the recording.

For several seconds, he just stood there.

Then he left the security room.

Downstairs, Mia was still on her knees.

Her fingers were red from gripping the mop handle.

The maid was reaching for another chip when footsteps sounded above them.

She froze.

Mia froze too.

The footsteps came slowly down the curved staircase.

The maid immediately sat upright.

Her confidence disappeared before she even saw who it was.

Mia lifted her eyes.

Her father stood halfway down the staircase.

He wasn’t shouting.

That frightened the maid more.

His eyes moved first to his daughter.

Then to the wet marble.

Then to the yellow mop.

Then to the orange bag in the maid’s lap.

Mia’s first reaction wasn’t relief.

She looked scared.

She quickly reached for the mop as if she needed to prove she had been working.

That movement broke him.

He came down the remaining stairs.

Mia tried to stand.

Her father knelt first.

He gently took the mop from her hands.

She stared at him, uncertain.

Then her eyes lifted toward the ceiling.

Toward the security camera.

The maid followed her gaze.

And finally understood.

The red light was still glowing.

Everything had been saved.

Every afternoon.

Every tear.

Every moment she believed happened when nobody important was watching.

Mia stood very still.

Then, slowly, she leaned into her father.

Her hands clutched the front of his jacket.

For the first time all day, she let herself cry without trying to stay quiet.

The maid remained frozen beneath the chandelier.

Above them, the camera kept recording.

But the evidence had already done what Mia had been too frightened to do.

It told her father everything.
