🎬 PART 2: «The Home Their Mother Chose Before She Died»

The teenager stared at her.

“No.”

His little brother peeked out from behind his jacket.

The woman stepped closer but stopped several feet away.

“My name is Claire.”

The teenager’s expression changed.

Their mother had mentioned that name only once.

Years ago.

“She said Claire was her sister.”

The woman nodded.

“I am.”

He shook his head.

“My aunt is dead.”

Claire’s face crumpled.

“That’s what your father told your mother.”

The judge quietly opened the file in front of him.

“There is a sealed letter here.”

The teenager looked toward him.

“What letter?”

The judge removed an old envelope.

Across the front was their mother’s handwriting.

Claire began crying before he even opened it.

The judge read silently for several seconds.

Then looked at the teenager.

“Your mother wrote this shortly before she died.”

The boy’s knees almost gave out.

“What does it say?”

The judge’s voice softened.

“That if anything happened to her, she wanted Claire to raise both of you.”

The teenager looked at his brother.

“Both?”

“Yes.”

The little boy whispered, “So they’re not separating us?”

Claire shook her head desperately.

“Never.”

The teenager still didn’t move.

“Then where were you?”

Claire reached into her bag and pulled out a bundle of unopened letters.

“I wrote every month.”

He stared at them.

“Why didn’t we get them?”

“Your father sent every one back.”

Silence filled the courtroom.

Claire’s voice trembled.

“He told me you hated me. Then after your mother died, he told me you’d been placed with another family.”

The teenager’s eyes filled again.

“We were living alone.”

Claire covered her mouth.

“I know that now.”

The little boy slowly let go of his brother’s jacket.

Then he asked the question that finally broke everyone in the room.

“If we go with you… can he come too?”

Claire dropped to her knees.

She looked directly at the teenager.

“I didn’t come here for one child.”

Her voice cracked.

“I came for my sister’s two boys.”

For the first time that day, the teenager stopped trying to be the adult.

He covered his face and cried.

His little brother wrapped both arms around him.

And Claire waited until he was ready before opening her arms to them both.
