🎬 PART 2: «The Toy He Thought Was Gone Forever»

The man stared at the red pedal car.

He had owned one exactly like it as a child.

Same dent near the wheel.

Same initials carved into the side by his older brother.

But that car had disappeared twenty years ago.

Along with someone he had once loved.

“What’s your mother’s name?”

The boy answered.

The man stopped breathing.

He knew that name.

He had spent years believing she left him without saying goodbye.

“Where is she?”

The boy pointed toward the bakery.

“She works in the back.”

The man stood slowly.

Then a woman stepped out carrying a tray of bread.

She saw him.

The tray slipped from her hands.

Neither moved.

The boys looked between them.

“Mom?”

Her eyes filled instantly.

“You weren’t supposed to find us like this.”

The man’s voice cracked.

“You disappeared.”

She shook her head.

“Your father paid me to.”

Silence.

The older boy looked at the man.

“Are you our dad?”

The woman covered her mouth.

The man looked at the two children.

Then at the little red car they were trying to sell just to buy food.

He dropped to his knees.

“I think I should have found you a long time ago.”

The younger boy stared at him.

Then quietly asked,

“Do we still have to sell the car?”

The man smiled through tears.

“No.”

He pulled both boys close.

“Nothing that belongs to this family is getting sold today.”
